SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN - NEWSPAPERS - Kingsport Times, 22 Jul 1919 ----¤¤¤---- NEARLY LOSES SCALP, BUT WILL RECOVER F. R. Anderson, Hurt in Auto Accident, Rallies Despite Age and the Loss of Blood. Although his scalp was nearly torn from his head and he bled copiously before he could be given medical attention, F. R. Anderson, sixty-three, who was thrown head-first to the concrete pavement on Sullivan street Saturday afternoon when he stepped in front of a machine driven by Miss Elsie Hickman, has a good chance to recover, it was learned today at the Community Hospital. Mr. Anderson, who lives near Gibsontown, has been in ill health for the past few years and returned from the Lyon's View Hospital only recently. He was attending the funeral services for Mrs. M. A. Hogan Saturday when the accident occurred. Mr. Anderson was seen to cross the lawn toward the street, where automobiles were parked on both sides. As he stepped from the curbing behind one machine, the car driven by Miss Hickman, who was said to be driving at a slow rate of speed, was approaching. Several persons shouted at Mr. Anderson to stop, but apparently he did not hear them. The force of the impact threw him to the ground, his forehead striking the concrete curbing and tearing his scalp from the forehead to the crown of his head. Mr. Anderson's age and his general physical condition made his injury serious and it was not believed at first that he would be able to withstand the effect of an anesthetic. However, he withstood the operation and was reported this morning to be Improving. He was given medical attention by Drs. Tipton and Marsh.
