SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN - NEWSPAPERS - Kingsport Times, 3 Feb 1920 ----¤¤¤---- HOLD SHERIFF AND FAMILY FOR MURDER Warren County Officer, Wife Two Children Suspected of Prisoner's Death. Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 3. - (United Press). Sheriff A. P. Warren, of Warren County, his wife and two children were arrested early today by Federal officers charged with complicity in the death of Fred Murphy, a Federal informer, who was found hanging in his cell over a week ago. The prisoners were rushed to Cookeville for their hearing. Murphy's death was declared by a coroner's jury to be suicide, but the investigation by Federal officers led to the murder theory. They believed that Murphy might have been drugged or rendered senseless by a blow on the head before hanging. Murphy's hands were wired in front of him when his body was found.
