SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Herman "Toad" Harkleroad, 30 Apr 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- 76, of Hicks Road, Piney Flats, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Harkleroad was a native of Bluff City, the son of the late John and Pearl Maness Harkleroad, and had lived in Piney Flats since 1964. He was a retired parts salesman for Stowers Machinery Corporation. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1954. He was a member of the Piney Flats United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee and secretary of Sunday school. He also belonged to the Zollicoffer Lodge F&AM #444 for 48 years and the Piney Flats Fire Department for 40 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Harkleroad and Wilma Jean Weaver. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Charlotte Dalton Harkleroad of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Christa Harkleroad and Travis Justice; three sisters, Agnes Reed of Johnson City, Mary Cross, Piney Flats, and Jensey Lyon and her husband, Beryl of Bluff City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle and Dreama Harkleroad, Bluff City, Glen and Jan Harkleroad, Coos Bay, Ore., and Sidney and Aleada Harkleroad, of Marion, N.C.; a granddaughter, Callee Justice, and grandson, Dalton Justice, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, May 2, 2005, in the South Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of the Rev. Mack Houston and the Rev. Laura Rasor. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of service at 8 p.m. A Masonic service will immediately follow the funeral service. A committal service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at the Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession. The family will receive friends at other times at 309 Webb Road, Piney Flats. Active pallbearers will be Sam Baird, Marvin Hyatt, Terry Jones, Wayne Snodgrass, Mitchell Justice and David McGlamery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Cole, Dr. Trey Robertson, Dr. Tony Haley, Dr. Martin Tran, Dr. Clifford Wiegand and Dr. Allan Colyar, Troy Justice, Todd Justice, Eugene Hancock, Clarence Perry, Ralph Morris, Albert Harrison, and Clifford Vandeventer.
