Contributor's Note:  Emma Christian Housewright, daughter of James “Big Jim” 
and Susan Harkleroad Christian, died April 27, 1984.  She was married to 
William Robert Housewright, son of John Wiley and Margaret Phillips 
Housewright.

CHURCH HILL----Emma Christian Housewright, 90, Route 8, Church Hill, died at 9 
p.m. Friday at Indian Path Hospital after a long illness.

A lifelong resident of Church Hill, she was a member of Mt. Vernon Primitive 
Baptist Church since the mid-1940s, where she had served three generations as 
a Sunday school Teacher.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Robert Housewright.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Kate Persinger, Church Hill; six sons, 
Willard Housewright, Wiley Housewright, Wayne Housewright, Tom Housewright, 
Clint Housewright all of Church Hill and Blaine Housewright, Fall Branch; one 
stepson, Robert Guy Housewright, Church Hill; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-
grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Arnold, Indian Springs and Kate Christian, 
Church Hill; and four brothers, Dan Christian, Missouri, John Christian, 
Kingsport, Jack Christian, Church Hill and James Christian, Bristol.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home in Church 
Hill and at the home of a daughter, Mary Kate Persinger, Route 8, Church Hill.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the funeral home 
with the Rev. Roger Dinsmore officiating.

Burial will be in Elm Springs Cemetery in Church Hill.
