She was born in Tazewell County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Lee and Virgie Blankenship Ray, both Tazewell County natives. She had made her home in Bristol the past three years living in Wabash, Ind., most of her life and was a former employee of Wagners, Inc., in Wabash. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Amos Jackson; one sister, Bonnie Hill; and two brothers, Cecil and Chester Ray. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Vickie) Shafer of Bristol Tennessee; four sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Eva) Houchins of Wytheville, Va., Mrs. Earl (Janice) Richardson of Indianapolis, Mrs. Arnold (Georgia) Shepherd of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Glen Allen (Cookie) Hess of Galion, Ohio; two brothers, Mr. Rufus Ray and wife, Naomi of Cedar Bluff and Mr. Bill Ray and wife Dorothy of Rosedale, Va.; one grandson, Matthew Shafer; special friends, Margaret and Larry Blevins; and sister-in-law, Effie Ray of Cedar Bluff. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Richlands Tabernacle in Richlands with Rev. Ralph Horton, Rev. Bob Osborne and Rev. David Horton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Matthew Shafer, Larry Blevins, Arnold Shepherd, Earl Richardson, John Shepherd and Joseph Shepherd. Honorary pallbearers will be Ira Jackson Jr. and Clell Mullins. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6 p.m. Wednesday and at the church one hour prior to the service.
