She was the daughter of the late Boyd and Mattie Myers Fugate. She was a native of Kingsport and had lived most of her life in the Bluff City area. She was a 41-year employee of Sprint, where she worked in the publishing department. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bluff City. Survivors include her husband, Gene Lyon of Bluff City; daughter, Leslie Burke and husband, Chris, of Bristol Tennessee; sisters Betty Williams, Faye Nuckles, Kay Hammond and Ruby Calhoun; brothers Carl Fugate, Tommy Fugate and Buddy Fugate; grandson Aaron Burke; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Thursday at 6 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Watson officiating. The family received friends Thursday from 5-6 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601.
