Hugh Amos Mallett, age 83, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, with his family gathered around him. He was retired from Sullivan County Highway Department, an avid fox hunter and a member of Blountville Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Virginia Comer Mallett, his first wife, Maude Crawford Mallett, his parents, Bertha and Emmitt Mallett, sister, Ruth Mauk, and brothers, George and John Harley Mallett. He was "Papaw" to everyone including his 15 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. Other survivors include sons and spouses, Ray and Betty Mallett of Johnson City, Jim and Liz Mallett of Surgoinsville and Bill Comer of Kingsport; daughters and spouses, Pauline and Walter Vermillion of Rogersville, Bertha and Junior Manis of Church Hill and Florence and Ronnie Dotson of Bristol; sister, Jean Lipe; brothers, Elmer Mallett and J.C. Mallett, and special family, Doug and Eunice Blankenship. Graveside services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Rev. Dwight Shaffer officiating.
