Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Sullivan County, he was a son of the late John and Jennie Carr Perry. Mr. Perry was a former construction worker and retired in 1984 from the Tennessee Department Of Tourism. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Davis Perry, Oct. 10, 2001; a daughter, Brenda Shipley Collins,; his sisters, Verna Smith and Nana Mae Perry; and his brothers, Grant, Earnest and W.I. Perry. Mr. Perry served in the United States Army during World War II. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary W. and Carolyn Shipley, Bluff City; a granddaughter, Michelle R. Johnson and her husband, Tony, of Bluff City; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Ernie Depew and Mr. Mark Smith officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, will be Kevin Bare, Thad Perry, Dennis Goff, Tony Johnson, Gene "Cotton" Bullock, Ed McDuffy, Lonnie Smith, Pat Smith, Ivan Smith, Bud Smith, Howard Perry and Charles Dowell. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Perry, Tom Milhorn, J.C. Carr, Ed Wolfe, Dallas Sams, Lawrence Perry, Jack Shephard, Frank Malone, Ralph "Doc" Adams, Ed Perry, Herman Bouton, Frank Cross and the church family of Bunker Hill Christian Church. For those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Perry to the Building Fund, Bunker Hill Christian Church, 490 Bunker Hill Road, Bluff City, TN 37618 or the Medical Center Hospice, 101 Med Tech Parkway Suite 100, Johnson City, TN 37604. V.F.W. Post 2166 and Tennessee National Guard will provide military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
