Pope Robert William "R.W." Pope, 79, of 2221 Broad St., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Nov. 30, 2002, after a battle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late John and Lilly Denton Pope and had been a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was a retired sheet-metal worker with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Woodmen of the World. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving inWorld War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Pope; and daughter, June Carolyn Pope. Survivors include brothers Kyle Pope, Charles Pope and Stewart Pope; sisters Virginia Emmert, Edith Wilson, Shirley Roller and Patsy Tomlinson; niece Mary Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Jerry Fleenor officiating. Military honors will be presented by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975.
