Powell KINGSPORT -- Garnett R. Powell, 81, a resident of Kingsport for the past 44 years, passed away early Saturday morning, Nov. 23, 2002, at his home following an illness of one year. Mr. Powell had previously been a teacher at Tennessee High School in Bristol Tennessee. At the request of Mr. Powell his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at 3 p.m. at the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Smith and Rev. Kathy Hale officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 24, 2002, from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6027, Kingsport, TN 37663. An online guest book may be signed at www.legacy.com. Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Powell. Christine H. Powers Committal services for Christine Hickman Powers will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Glenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen L. Playl will officiate.
