Rose Bascom "Jim" Slimp Rose, 79, of 38 22nd St., Bristol, Tenn.,. went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was a native of Davenport, Va., and was the son of the late Marion and Mary Hurt Rose. He was a retired welder with Enterprise Fabricators and was also employed by Kerns Bakery for about 15 years. He was a member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and ruling elder. Mr. Rose was also active in the senior citizens program at Jacobs Creek Job Corps and a member of the Happy Hearts Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines. Survivors include wife of 55 years, Louella Shipley Rose; son, David Rose and wife Connie of Bristol Tennessee; grandchildren, Christopher, Tiffany, Michael, Nathan and Blake; sister, Stella Breeding of Davenport, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Fullop and Pastor Scott Price officiating. Committal services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-7:45 p.m. prior to the service.
