Stitt Sr. Robert L. Stitt Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Bristol Nursing Home. He was born in Blackwood, Wise County, Va., a son of the late Jacob A. and Jennie Taylor Stitt, and had lived in Bristol since 1917. He was a veteran of the Tennessee National Guard and served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a life member of the VFW and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was the widower of Jane Hannah Stitt, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He is survived by a son, Bob Stitt Jr. and his wife, Vivian W. Stitt, of Bristol Virginia; two step-grandsons; six step-great-grandchildren; one step- great-great-grandson; two sisters, Ida Wadell and her husband, Ira, of Texas, and Hazel Hoyle of Arkansas; two brothers, Cecil Stitt and his wife, Sarah, of Bluff City and Kenneth Stitt and his wife, Peggy, of Canton, Ga.; a sister-in- law, Juanita Stitt of Bristol Tennessee; several nieces and nephews, including a special great-nephew, Tommy Galyon and his family of Lansing, Mich. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the graveside in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. E.W. Ely and Rev. Mike Moore officiating. Military graveside rites will be presented by VFW Post 6975 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 o'clock Friday evening at Blevins Funeral Home.
