Sykes Aliese Rudder Sykes, 85, of 47 24th St., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Sykes was a native of Dante, Va., and had lived in the Bristol area for the past 43 years. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Leonard Sykes; one son, John Sykes of Poquoson, Va.; two daughters, Janet Sykes Lawson of Ashburn,Va., and Jeanie Sykes Whitehead of Simpsonville, S.C.; two sisters, Mae Banner of Anderson, S.C., and Louise Carpenter of Kingsport; two brothers, Harry Rudder of Winston-Salem, N.C., and James Rudder of Greenville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Gary Chenoweth officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Akard Funeral Home. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at akardfh@peercom.net.
