A native of Sullivan County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Elizabeth Craine Nichels. Mrs. White was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. She was a professional seamstress and at the age of 75, she received a high school diploma and a Lifetime Achievement Award from E.T.S.U. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Thomas White Sr.; three brothers, Paul, Arlan and Dewey Nichels; and a sister, Martha Jones. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Elizabeth and Early Darnell of Asheboro, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard Thomas Jr. and Linda White of Louisville, Tenn., and Gene and Kim White of Bluff City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carroll E. and Polly Nichels and Robert Nichels, all of Bluff City; a sister-in-law, Ruby Lyon of Bluff City; three special friends, Lois Jenkins, Ruth Poore and Myrtle Lyon, all of Bluff City. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City with Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Dean Palmer. Graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, from Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City. Those who wish to attend the service are requested to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Danny Jenkins, Robert Miller, Lawrence Jones, Lon Cardwell, Richard Bowling, Harvey Jessee, Avery Hensley and Gordon Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Rose Lewis, Paulette Miller, Anna Cardwell, Ruth Poore, Susan Bowling, Peggy Rustin, Darlene Jessee, Lois Jenkins, Myrtle Lyon, Lois Houck and members of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church Choir. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, from the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City and at the residence any time.
