SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Evelyn Watson Whitehead, 20 Aug 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Evelyn Watson Whitehead, of the Powder Branch Community of Elizabethton, died Saturday, August 20, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital due to a stroke. She had also fought a long courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Whitehead was born in Sullivan County to the late Nathan and Jennie Sigman Watson. Her family later moved to Johnson City where she graduated from Science Hill High School and worked at JC Penney's. She later married and moved to the Powder Branch area where she spent her life as a homemaker. Evelyn was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitehead was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jack Whitehead, four sisters, Lena Hodges, Amanda Berry, Lily Meeks and Mamie Edens, and four brothers, Sherman, Hubert, Lloyd and Pat Watson. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Loyd, Johnson City; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Edna Watson, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a sister-law, Madge Benfield, Kingston, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special and sincere thanks to the staff of the 3rd Floor of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and to Dr. Peter Tuberty for the excellent care given to Mrs. Whitehead during her last few days. Your kindness will always be remembered. Also, thanks to the staff of Pine Ridge Health Care Center. The funeral service for Mrs. Whitehead will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, August 22, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Sherry Hutchins, pianist and soloist. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, in the VA Mountain Home National Cemetery. Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to travel together in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Holland, Ronnie Guinn, Jeff Giles, Steve Hyder, Mike Perry, Terry McKeehan, Ron Archer and Billy Mathis. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Big Springs Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the funeral service.
