Perdue and he agrees to take care and provide for me in every way and pay all my expenses so long as I may live also at my death pay my buriel expenses. I the said John Perdue do hereby give, deed, transfer and convey unto the said Luke C. Perdue the following described tract or parcel of land being a portion of my old homestead survey lying and being in Sumner County & state of Tennessee Dist. No 13 and on side of Caney Fork of Drakes Creek and bounded as follows; Beginning at a Hickory the N. E. Corner thence N 85 W 40 3/5 poles to stake, thence S 10 3/4 W 37 poles to stone, thence S 67 1/2 E 12 1/4 poles to Red Oak, thence S 30 1/2 E 18 poles to a stone, thence 48 1/4 E poles to small cedar, thence S 16 W 52 1/4 poles to stone with Hickory pointer thence 878 W 99 poles to stake thence S 4 S 22 poles to a white oak thence S 84 1/2 E 25 poles to a hickory thence S 4 W 41 poles to stone chestnut, red oak & sassafras pointers, thence S 88 1/2 E 59 1/2 poles to stone in an old field thence South 10 poles to stone, sugar tree dogwood & gum pointers thence N 17 E 10 poles to an Elm thence N 77 1/4 E 30 poles to a pointer in head of creek, thence with the creek East 29 poles to two house beams on the North bank of the creek, thence N 3 1/2 E 175 poles to the Beginning containing by estimation Eighty - two acres & 235 yards be the same more or less to have & to hold the same and also a small tract lying on the South side of Caney fork and bounded as follows; Beginning at a small Black oak running 370 poles to stake in Shanklins line, thence south west the same 40 poles to the middle of Caney fork creek thence with the meanderings of the same South 22 W 20 poles thence S 69 W 26 poles thence S 36 W 13 poles thence S 61 W 10 poles thence N 83 W 16 poles thence North 9 W 10 poles thence West 1 pole thence S 19 1/2 poles to the Beginning containing Eleven acres and 75 (Sqr?) poles be the same more or less to have & hold the same, I do hereby covenante with the said Luke C. Perdue that I am lawfully siezed of said land have a good right to convey it & that the same is unemcumbered & that if he complys with the obligations he shall hold the same regardless of any claims my other heirs may hereafter produce, I do further bind myself to warrant & defend the title to this land and every part thereof against the legal claims of all persons whatever. Gardner Regt By T. C. Mulligan Deputy Regt Additional Comments: John Perdue was born June 1827 in Sumner Co., TN to Luke Perdue and Susannah Bowsman. He married to Louisa Sarver 16 May 1854 in Sumner Co., TN. She died Oct 1879 from TB and was buried in Rippy (formerly Sarver) family Cemetery. John Perdue made the above written deed in order to be cared for in his old age. His son Luke filed bankruptcy shortly after the execution of the above deed. John Perdue was living as a "boarder" in a Buntin household in 1900. He died in October of 1900 and was buried in unmarked grave probably in Luke Perdue Cemetery.
