He was born in Pennsylvania in 1761. He entered the service while living in North Carolina, under Captain William Davidson and Major James White. He joined General Thomas Sumters forces and was taken prisoner at the battle of Fishing Creek. Hs escaped with John Miller and Duncan McCowan and was given his honorable discharge by General Rutherford. In 1840 he was living with Frank Yourn.
