He was born near Hagerstown, Md., in February, 1762. He moved to Virginia and was living there when he enlisted in the 2nd Virginia regiment. He was commissioned lieutenant in February 1781. He was taken prisoner at Charleston. He moved to Sumner County about 1784 with the Bledsoe family. He was a captain in the Indian wars and served as captain in the Nickajack expedition. He died in Sumner County, September 30, 1835. Note: George Dawson Blackmore married Elizabeth Neely, daughter of Captain Alexander Neely and Elizabeth Montgomery Neely (whose sister, Catherine, was the wife of Colonel Isaac Bledsoe). They had ten children, 6 daughters and 4 sons: Polly (d. y.), Margaret (d. y.), Elizabeth (d. unm.), Rachel (m. James Carlton), Catherine Montgomery, (m. Josephus C. Guild), Emaline (m. James Hadley), Charles Neely, George Dawson, Jr., (d unm), James H., and William Montgomery Blackmore (m. Rachel Jackson Barry, daughter of Redmond Dillion Barry).
