He served in Virginia troops. He was the son of Joseph Bennett Bradford and Mary George Bradford, and was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, August 4. 1761. He served in the battle of Guilford Court House and was taken prisoner in the surrender at Charleston. He was confined on tine British ship "Jersey" until peace, was declared. He moved to Tennessee after the Revolution and settled in Summer County, where he died June 3, 1831. He married three times, first Mary Steele, second, Katherine Morgan and third Nancy Boyles. By his first wife his children were: Katherine, Fielding and Lucy. By his second wife his children were: Cynthia, Daniel Morgan, Francis, Eliza, Emily, Emma Corbett, Joseph Bennett, Susan and Ann L. By his third wife his children were: Robert Boyles, Larkin, Elizabeth, John Holt, Mary Ann, William Montgomery, Rebecca Ellen, Tabitha and Roxanna.
