His name is on the 1832 list and in the 1840 Census. He was born in Wake County, North Carolina, about 1758. He enlisted in Wake County and served in North Carolina troops. He moved to Sumner County, Tennessee, in 1806. He married Susanna _____ December 25, 1786. She survived his death, January 5, 1843, and applied for pension September 4, 1843, giving her age as 75 years. She was therefore born in 1768. Their children were: Caty, born 1788; Nancy, born 1790; Ailey, born 1792; Thomas, born 1794; Mary, born 1796; and William Jr. born after 1796. Note: Another William May served in Virginia troops and drew pension in McMinn County, Tennessee.
