"W. H. Whitson Beaten to Death With Stick by Son Is Alleged"
     W. H. Whitson well known farmer of the fourteenth district was killed 
Thursday night at his home near Sulphura by his son Marvin Whitson. It is said 
that the son struck his father over the head first with a hickory stick then 
beat him with the but end of a pistol causing instant death. The killing was 
witnessed by Mrs. Whitson wife of the deceased and mother of young Whitson and 
by her two daughters. The deceased was 56 years of age and the son 27. 
Officiers going to the scene brought Whitson to Gallatin and placed him in jail
"Previous Trouble"
     It is reported that there had been previous trouble between father and son 
and that this brewed resulting in the killing. Marvin is said to have been 
intoxicated at the time.
     Some months ago Raymond Whitson brother of Marvin was killed at the 
courthouse in Franklin, Kentucky where Marvin was in jail on a charge of 
cutting and beating Bobby Davidson Raymond Whitsons assailant. Marvin is 
married and the father of two.

Additional Comments:
William Henry "Sonny" Whitson was son of Wilson and Elizabeth Mitchell Whitson. 
He married in 1889 Ardelia L. "Dolly" Perdue. They had twelve children. Marvin 
Whitson was their second child born 1892. His brother Raymond Whitson was their 
oldest. Raymond had went to the courthouse in Franklin, KY 10 Oct 1921 to post 
bail for his brother Marvin. Raymond was shot and killed on the courthouse 
steps by Bobby Davidson who mistook him for brother Marvin. Marvin served time 
in prison for killing his father.
