Death was attributed to a heart attack. Ms. Bennett was a native of Yancey County, North Carolina, and daughter of Charles "Ike" and Julia Louisa Boone Smith Bennett. She lived in Erwin most of her life. She was a member of Riverview Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marie DeHaven Baltimore, Maryland. Two sisters, Mrs. Belle Ambrose and Mrs. Elizabeth Callaway, both of Erwin, and three grandchildren, Donna DeHaven, Debra DeHaven, and Donald Edward DeHaven, Junior, all of Baltimore. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the chapel of the Robert Ledford Funeral Home with the Reverend William Beam officiating. Internment was in the Polly Erwin Cemetery. Robert Ledford Funeral Home was in charge.
