Mrs. Edwards was a Yancey County, North Carolina native and had lived in Unicoi County most of her life. He was a daughter of the late Williams Garrison and Lydia Higgins Hensley. Mrs. Edwards was of the Baptist faith. She was employed as a machine operator for Industrial Garment before retiring after 35 years. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by three brothers, Ezra Hensley, Hilliard Hensley and Gaither Hensley; five sisters, Martha Smith, Texie Lynch, Leah Powers, Juanita Bibbs and Bonnie Weathers; and one son, Kevin Higgins. Survivors include: three sons, Ralph Higgins, Alvin Higgins, and Frank Higgins, all of Erwin; three daughters, Ann McIntosh, Patricia McKinney, both of Erwin, and Stella Horning, Ijamsville, Maryland; one brother, Llyod Hensley; three sisters, Virginia Belle Sparks, Balcksburg, Virginia, Mary Peake and Willa Dean Reid, both of Erwin; 17 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Edwards is interred at Evergreen Cemetery.
