Emmert, Sr., age 80, Holiday House Apartments, Erwin, who died Sunday, August 25, 1996, at the V.A. Medical Center, Mountain Home, Johnson City, were conducted on Monday at 8:00 p.m., in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Ambler officiated. Music was provided by Barbara Davis. Graveside service and interment were conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m., at the V.A. Cemetery, Mountain Home, with military graveside honors. Mr. Emmert was a native of Erwin, and a son of the late Frank and Finetta Harris Emmert. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of V.F.W., Post #5809.Mr. Emmert was a retired painter from Little and Adams, Kingsport.He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Bowman. Survivors include his wife, Myrdith Bailey Emmert; four daughters, Barbara Renfro, Kingsport, Betty Jo Peterson, Telford, Kathy Franklin, Johnson City, and Jennifer Calloway, Kingsport; three sons, George Emmert, Jr., Tom Emmert, and Greg Emmert, all of Erwin; two sisters, Grace Leach, Johnson City, and Mae McKinney, Erwin; two brothers, Ernest Emmert, Erwin, and Gene Emmert, Johnson City; 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Valley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
