Mr. Fender was a native of Yancey County, North Carolina, and a son of the late John and Mary Bryant Fender. During his working career, he had been employed by Southern Potteries, formerly of Erwin, Enco Materials, Callahan Construction, and by Triangle Supply. He retried in 1981. Mr. Fender was a member of Pathway Freewill Baptist Church, and a member of the Clinchfield Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Fender on Dece,ber 15, 1992. And is also preceded in death by two sons, two sisters, five brothers, one grandson, and one great-grandchild. Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Hensley, Erwin, and Barbara Fuller, Johnson City; three sons, Monroe Fender, Johnson City, Arthur Fender, Oregon, and Ray Fender, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Fender is interred in Roselawn Memory Gardens.
