Gouge Funeral services for John A. Gouge, age 88, Route 1, Box 375, Unicoi, who died Saturday, May 23, 1998 at Erwin Health Care, will be conducted at 8 p.m., Wednesday May 27 in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Reverend Paul Knapp will officiate. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Gouge Family Cemetery, Limeston Cove Community, Unicoi. Mr. Gouge was a son of the late James T. and Harriet Grindstaff Gouge. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Limestone Cove Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by hi wife, Donna Oleta Gouge on December 16, 1994; and by three brothers; two sisters and one grandson. Survivors include: two daughters, Jean Keplinger, Unicoi and June Messer of Hmapton; four sons, Jack M. Gouge, Heidelberg, Germany, James K. Gouge, Montgomery, Alabama, Bobby Joe Gouge and John W. Gouge, both of Unicoi; five sisters, Alice Banks, Mae Gouge, Polly Bailey, Leatha Ellis, all of Johnson City, and Ruth Hamrick of Birmingham, Alabama; two brothers, Earl Gouge and Dalton Gouge, both of Johnson City; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Valley Funeral Home was in charge of arangements.
