JOHN F. LAWSON JOHNSON CITY, TN - Dr. John F. Lawson, 85, of Colonial Hill Retirement Center, died Thursday, April 12, 2007. A native of Erwin, Tenn., He was the son of the late Robert Wesley and Lettie Brown Lawson. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, and one sister. He received his medical degree from Duke University and began his surgical practice in Johnson City. He retired from practice in 1993, after which the John Lawson Surgical Group was named in his honor, as well as the John Lawson Surgical Lectureship at ETSU. He served 12 years on the Johnson City Board of Education and was a member of the Johnson City Community Band. He was also a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Joann Kroetz Lawson of the home; two daughters, Marcia Dunn of Spruce Pine, and Dr. Elizabeth Ann Lawson of Johnson City; two sons, John Robert Lawson of Johnson City, and Dr. James Douglas Lawson of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Brian Taylor and Doug DeJarnett officiated. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.
