He was a Yancey County, North Carolina native who lived most of his life in Unicoi County, and a son of the late Jobe and Lydia Miller Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was employed by the Tennessee Division of Forestry, having retired after 20 years of service, and also a retired farmer. He was a past board member of the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) and a past board member of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS). Mr. Ramsey was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, having served in China. He attended Pilgrim Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by two brothers, Niram Ramsey and John Ramsey; and one sister, Myma Bailey. Survivors include his wife, Trula Wilson Ramsey; one son, James A. "Jim" Ramsey, Erwin; one daughter, Joyce Ann Willis, Erwin; one sister, Opal Love, Erwin; two granddaughters, Bethany Ann Willis and Natalie Jill Willis.
