He was a lifelong resident of Flag Pond and a son of Elbert J. and Bertha Briggs Rice. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon, Elizabethton, Tennessee where he worked in the spinning department for 32 years. An Army Veteran, Rice attended Flag Pond Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one son and five brothers. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Randall Rice; one daughter, Kathy Jones of Kennesaw, Georgia; two brothers, Chester Rice of Flag Pond and Ernie Rice of Jonesborough, Tennessee; two sisters, Mrs. John Hardin and Mrs. George Hensley of Erwin; three grandchildren; one great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
