Mr. Toney was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Herbert E. and Ada Ford Toney. He served with the United States Navy Seabees during World War II in North Africa and Sicily. He owned and operated Toney's Grocery in the Fishery Community of Erwin for 32 years until his retirement in 1984. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Ford Toney. Survivors include: his wife, Amner McInturff Toney; one daughter, Janet Hodge, Oak Ridge; one son, Reedy Toney, Kingsport; one sister, Marie McInturff, Unicoi; five grandchildren, Shayne Cuzzell, Kaelin Toney, Susan Box, Wendy Morgan and Laurie Whitson; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Toney is interred at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
