Mr. Toney was a native of Erwin and a son of the late J. Frank Toney and Sue Helen Emerson Toney. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served in the Korean War. Mr. Toney retired in 1989, after 35 years of service as an engineering analyst for RCA and General Electric at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. He was a fomrer Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop Number 323, in Melbourne for more than 10 years. As a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, he received the District Award of Merit, Sliver Beaver, and Order of Arrow Brotherhood. He led more than 20 young men, including his two sons, to the rank of Eagle Scout. Mr. Toney was a member of First United Methodist Church, Melbourne. Survivors include: his wife, Nancy R. Toney, Melbourne; two sons, Jame Douglas Toney, Palm Bay, Florida and Jeff Toney, Melbourne; one daughter, Jennifer Sue Toney, Gainseville, Florida; one brother, Emerson Toney, Littleton, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Jason Toney and Jamie Toney. Mr. Toney is interred in Florida Memorial Gardens, Melbourne. Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 725-C West State Road 424, Longwood, Florida 32759.
