He was born in North Carolina in September or October 1762. He enlisted in Capt. Robert Patton's Company and enlisted again when he substituted for Jacob Peake in Col. Charles McDowell's Regiment of Horse. He volunteered again, after he had moved to what is now Tennessee, in Col. John Sevier's Mounted Volunteers and served in the battle of King's Mountain. He volunteered again to go against the Cherokees under Col. Sevier and Maj. Jonathan Tipton. He marched to Highwassee. Note: George Davidson Sherrill was a son of Samuel Sherrill and brother of Catherine Sherrill, "Bonny Kate," who married Col. John Sevier as his second wife.
