He resided in Spottsylvania County, Virginia, (where he was born). He enlisted in 1776 in Captains Towles and Avery's companies, Colonels Buckner and Simms' regiments. He was in both battles of Trenton and the battle of Germantown. He was discharged February 13, 1778, at Valley Forge. He served later in Virginia Militia under LaFayette and was in the Siege of Yorktown. He married in October, 1778, Elizabeth _____. He died December 7, 1832, in Cannon County, Tennessee. Elizabeth Turnley survived him and drew pension until June 23, 1850 when she died in Cannon County. Their children were: Edmund, born 1779; Martha, born 1782; Mary, born 1783; Catherine, born 1785; John, born 1787; Nancy, born 1789; Powell, born 1791; Ellet. born 1793, and Temple, born 1795.
