Applied in Washington County, TN June 1818. States he was in the militia service of the Revolutionary War to Ambury in the State of Jersey early in the Revolution and afterwards; when the flying camp was formed he was enlisted in same for a short period after which service in said camp, he enlisted in the regiment - regular army of the Revolution on the Continental service sometime in 1776 as well as he now recollects a fifer under Lt. Duncan in Capt Reed's company, Col Hazen regiment or brigade or commonly called the Congress one, which was made up of men and company collected through the U.S. and served for six years and 8 months and was discharged in 1783 at Pompton Plains in New Jersey by Gen Hazen, then Colonel Hazen, that he kept his discharge for many years and until this last war when he entered again the service of his country for eighteen months and by the vilany of some person when in service was robbed of pocket book and all papers among which was his discharge, that during said service was in Brandywine battle at the taking of Cornwallis and several other battles that he is now aged 63 and states he is now a citizen of Sullivan County, Tennessee and has resided within the United States ever since his discharge from the army of the Revolution. STATE OF TENNESSEE: KNOX COUNTY 1820 July session 6 July 1820 personally appeared THOMAS McLAIN or McCLAIN age 65 resident in Knox Co Tenn stated then he served six years and 8 months in the Revolution, states he has a wife age about 47, and he and wife are the only persons in family.
