Edmond Bishop Pension Application 22 Jul 1852 Washington County, Tennessee Abstract from National Archives War of 1812 Records On this 22 day of July A.D. eighteen hundred and fifty-two, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace authorized for the County and State aforesaid, EDMUND BISHOP, AGED EIGHTY-ONE years, a resident of the County and State aforesaid, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical EDMOND BISHOP who was a private in the Company cominanded by Captain Edward Clemons, in the Regiment commanded by Col. Means, South Carolina militia troops in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 15th day of June 1813 (?). That he volunteered on or about the 20th day of September 1814 for the term of six months, and continued in actual service in said war for the said term of six months and was honorably discharged at Charleston, in the state of South Carolina on or about the 28th day of March 1815 as will appear by the muster rolls of said Company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who ...... engaged in the military service of the United States passed September 28th 1850, and that he is not entitled to nor has he received bounty land under any other act of Congress his Edmond x Bishop mark Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written. Smith, Clerk of the County Court of said County, do certify that Laurence Bowers, Esq., whose name appears to the fore-going affidavit is now and was at the tiuie of signing the same an acting Justice of the Peace for said County duly commissoned arid qualified and that the foregoing signature of his is genuine. In witness whereof I have heteunto set my hand and seal of office at office in Jonesborough (TENN.) this 24th day of August 1852. (signature) W. H. Smith, Clerk of the County Court of said County, do certify that Laurence Bowers, Esq., whose name appears to the foregoing affidavit is now and was at the time of the signing the same an acting Justice of the Peace for said County duly commissioned and qualified and that the foregoing signature is genuine. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal of office at office in Jonesbouough (TENN.) this 24th day of August 1852. STATE OF TENNESSEE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON (?) On this 4 day of April, 1855, personally appeared before me, Justice of the Peace in and for said county and state, EDMOND BISHOP aged 85 years, a resident ot Washington County, in the said State, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical EDMOND BISHOP who was a private in the company commanded by Capt. Edmond Clemmons (?) in the Regiment of South Carolina Militia, commanded by Col Hugh Means in the War with Great Britain declared by the U.S on the 18th of June 1812 volunteered for the term of three months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of fourteen days (and upwards,) - that he has heretofore made application for Bounty Land under the act 28th September 1850, and act 22 March 1852, and received a land warrant, No. for forty acres, which he has since legally disposed of, and Cannot now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act approved 3rd of March 1855. He also declares that he has never applied for nor received under this or any other act of Congress, any bounty land warrant except the one above mentioned. his Applicant's Signature Edmond x Bishop mark We J. Clark and Henry Curtis of the aforesaid County and State, upon our oaths, declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Edmond Bishop in our presence; and that we believe, from the appearance and statements of the applicant, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be, and that we are not interested in his claim.
