Burke Ethel M. Burke, 82, formerly of 208 W. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton. Mrs. Burke was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a member of the Liberty Fellowship Church, Johnson City, and a longtime former member of the Elizabethton VFW. She was an employee of the old Johnson City Memorial Hospital and Johnson City Medical Center for 35 years before retirement. Mrs. Burke was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis E. Burke, in 1977; a son, Billy Wayne Burke; and a daughter-in-law, Marlene Burke. Survivors include two daughters, Cathryn Wilcox and her husband, Jim, of Elizabethton, and Patricia Dykes and her husband, Claude, of Cary, Illi; three sons, Jerry Allen Burke and his wife, Diane, of Bristol, R.I., Bobby Earl Burke, of Tampa, Fla., and Ronald David Burke and his wife, Sharon, of Johnson City; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Gary Canter of Gray; a special niece, Louise McKay and her husband, Bill, of Kingsport; four special and dear friends, Jean Sutphin, Helen Cole, Velma Sayers and Helen Fuller, all of Johnson City; and her special companion, her little dog, "Pebbles." The graveside service for Mrs. Burke will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, November 9, at Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City, with Rev. Dan Foster officiating. Everyone attending is asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 a.m. There will be no formal visitation; however, those that wish may sign the register book any time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Burke's name to the Alzheimer's Association, NE TN Chapter, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN 37604. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to all of the employees of Hermitage Health Care, Elizabethton, for the wonderful love, care and compassion given to their mother during her stay there.
