Berry ELIZABETHTON -- Robert Lee "Bob" Berry, 61, of 511 N. East St. died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late Delmar Stover and Katherine Laughore Barham Berry. He was retired from Pan-American Airlines. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge 238, a 32nd-Degree Scottish Rite, The York Rite Bodies, Jericho Shrine Temple and a member of the Legion of Honor, Jericho Shrine Temple. He had served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Carter, Washington and Sullivan counties and the national Humane Societies. Mr. Berry was an avid gardner and animal lover, being very active with the Humane Society. He enjoyed black powder target shooting with his son-in-law, Gerry, and grandson, Joe Hardin. He was a very kind-hearted, generous and loving man. It was his joy to care for others especially his wife, Margie, and his adored mother-in-law, Vergie Cardwell. He will be missed by countless friends and family but most of all by his best friend and companion, his dog, Misha. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Joe Berry; another brother, Stover Berry; and nephew John Berry II. Survivors include his wife, Margie Cardwell Berry; a daughter and son-in- law, Teresa and Gerald Hardin of Bristol; one brother, John Berry of Atlanta; his loving granddaughter, Jennifer Lauren Oaks and her fiance, Mike Rutledge; his granddaughter and grandson, Joanna and Joseph Hardin; his mother-in-law, Vergie B. Cardwell of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Thelma C. Colbaugh; brother-in-law, John S. Colbaugh; nieces, Trudy Colbaugh and Vicky, Lura Kathryn and Becky Berry; a great-niece, Cameron Harvest Colbaugh; nephew, Chris Colbaugh and a very special nephew, his name sake, Robert Joshua Berry; and aunts also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Phil Poston officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Jonesborough. Dashiell Masonic Lodge 238 will conduct a service following the funeral service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Bodies, Dr. David Fenner, Gerald L. Hardin, Christopher A. Colbaugh and Michael Rutledge. Bob has requested that in lieu of flowers, a gift be given to Carter County Humane Society, any kindness you show any animal will be greatly appreciated.
