WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Hale W. "Buck" Buchanan, 15 Oct 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Hale W. Buchanan Mr. Hale W. "Buck" Buchanan, 82, Jonesborough, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a native of Avery County, N.C. but lived in Washington County, Tenn. more than 50 years. He was a son of the late Isaac and Molly English Buchanan. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Buchanan retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital as a nursing assistant after 31 years of employment. Mr. Buchanan was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII serving in Germany with the 133rd Combat Engineering Division. This was during the Holocaust where he saw so much human devastation. He was a lifelong member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church where he served as assistant teacher and served on the mission board in association with the Holston Baptist Association. He was also a former member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he was active in the bus ministry, and Antioch Baptist Church where he held a position as adult Sunday school teacher, and Cherokee Baptist Church. He also had a ministry at Colonial Hills Health Care Center where he visited and had devotions with the patients. He had a deep love for people. Survivors include his wife Retha Colleen Jones Buchanan, of the home; a daughter Inger Blanton, Jonesborough; a granddaughter Molly C. Blanton of Jonesborough; one brother Kelly Buchanan, Newland, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hale W. "Buck" Buchanan will be conducted 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2003 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Garland, Don Whaley, Oral J. Constable, Phil Ramsey, Jim Greene, Kenneth Sands and Jack Daniels. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003.
