WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Billy J. Carriger, 15 Feb 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Billy J. Carriger, 73, 116 Tall Oak Circle, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Carriger was a native of Jonesborough and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late David Kitts and Ida Grindstaff Carriger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford Carriger and Norman Carriger, and a sister, Ina Murr. Mr. Carriger was retired from T.P.I. with 15 years of service and was a former employee of the Magnavox plant with 15 years of service. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church and the Adult Men's Class, and a former member and deacon of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Taylor Carriger, of the home; a daughter, Susan A. Carriger, of the home; and four sisters, Betty Edwards and Evelyn Waycaster, both of Johnson City, Georgia Kinley, Jonesborough, and Galilee Bailey, Woodridge, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 17, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel with Dr. Michael Oaks officiating. Music will be by Mrs. Kathy Thompson, pianist and soloist. Active pallbearers will be the deacons of University Parkway Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men's Sunday School Class at University Parkway Baptist Church, J.C. Meade, Jack Howell, Keith Toth and the neighbors of Tall Oak Circle. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, February 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard of Kingsport. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
