A native of Spruce Pine, she was the daughter of the late Fonzer and Belle Thomas Buchanan, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Taylor Buchanan, and two infant brothers. She was a retired registered nurse and was with the Cadet Nurse Program during WWII. She was a member of the Tri-City Seniors Bowling League and of First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City. Survivors include two daughters, Laura Cowan Cooper of Kodak, TN, and Linda Cowan Cabaniss of Shelby; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home. Rev. Kent Holt officiated. Burial was at 4 p.m. Saturday in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Spruce Pine. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
