Ethel Garvin Dean, 98, of Abbey Delray North, Delray Beach, Fla., passed away
peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2005, in Delray Beach, Fla.

Mrs. Dean was a native and longtime resident of Jonesborough and former
resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late George Darden and
Cynthia Booth Garvin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
a sister, Ruth Dandoe.

Mrs. Dean was a 1927 graduate of the Appalachian Hospital Nursing School and
was a retired registered nurse. She was the widow of the late Everett F. Dean.
She moved to Florida in 1995 to be with her son, Nathan W. Dean, and wife,
Mary Fetzer Dean, of Delray Beach, Fla., who survive her.

She is also survived by her beloved granddaughter, Elli Dean Edy, Smyrna, Ga.,
and two dear sisters, Jewell Hayes and Blanche Nelson, both of Oak Ridge. One
niece and two nephews also survive

Her life of giving and caring will be celebrated in services to be held at
Tetrick Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, in the Chapel of Peace
with the Rev. Robert Thomason officiating. Graveside services and interment
will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens,
Johnson City. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet
at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends
Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., prior to the service in the chapel. In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests donations to the Staff Scholarship Fund at Abbey
Delray, 1000 Lowson Blvd., Delray Beach, Fla., to help the staff who lovingly
