A native of Johnson City, Tenn., he was the son of the late Terry and Mary Brown Epperson. He was a retired colonel with the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Asheville chapter of the Air Force Association; the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32nd degree, Valley of Savannah, Savannah, Ga.; and of Covert Lodge #11 AF&AM Omaha, Neb.; and American Legion Post #201, Burnsville. Survivors include his wife, Beryl Hollifield Epperson of the home; a son, Lewis Murphy Epperson Jr. of Reston, Va.; a sister, Frances Snow of Lorena, Texas; and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. A graveside military service followed at 4 p.m. in Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn.
