George R. Gobble, age 95, 1641 U.S. Highway 19E, Elizabethton, died 
Monday, December 8, 2003, at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton 
following a brief illness.
Mr. Gobble was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, and a 
son of the late Michael Preston and Retta Jarrett Gobble. 
He was formerly employed by Gordon's furniture in the finishing 
department and later retired from the finishing department of Magnavox 
in 1971. 
Mr. Gobble was a member of the Berea Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson 
City. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa 
Ann Hilton Gobble, in 2002; two sons, Charles and Leroy Gobble; one 
daughter, June Waycaster; one brother, Loyd Gobble; three sisters, 
Geneva Gobble Johnson, Verna Gobble Feathers, and Dove Gobble Taylor. 
Survivors include three sons, Onlie Gobble, and his wife, Mary, Johnson 
City; Smokey Gobble, and his wife, Sara, Kingsport, and Elmer Gobble, 
and his wife, Jean, Hampton; one daughter, Wanda Carr, Hampton; two 
step-daughters, Evelyn Fillers, Johnson City, and Barbara Sue Calvert, 
Hampton; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and 
nephews. 
The graveside funeral service for Mr. Gobble will be conducted Thursday, 
December 11, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. in Roselawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. 
D.C. Byrd officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and 
friends. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the 
EastParlor of the Appalachian Funeral Home. Condolences may be made online

Services, 800 E Watauga Ave., is serving the Gobble family.
