"HoJo" Johnson Howard E. "HoJo" Johnson, 82, 145 River Road, Johnson City, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center at Mountain Home. Mr. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and a son of the late Chris "J.C." and Blanche Phipps Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Johnson, Raymond Johnson and Lynn Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a residential remodeling contractor. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II, and a member of the VFW Post # 2108, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Rolling Thunder, and the Military Order of the Cootie. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Madeline Tipton Johnson, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don Johnson, Johnson City, and Ed and Anne Johnson, Elizabethton; three brothers, Robert Johnson, Melbourne, Fla., Blaine Johnson and Thomas W. Johnson, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and six sisters, Christine Murr, Atlanta, Ga., Elaine Hopson and Mary Ann Hagy, both of Baltimore, Md., Dorothy Kay Stout, Wilma Glass and Carolyn Green, all of Johnson City. Three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great- grandchildren, one step-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Johnson will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 1, in the Morris-Baker North Chapel with Rev. Jim Gray and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, December 2, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to go in procession. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the VFW Post # 2166 of Elizabethton and the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Rolling Thunder and members of the Military Order of the Cooties. The family will receive friends in the North Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to the Johnson family via www.morrisbaker.com.
