WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Fred C. Lester, 30 Jun 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Fred C. Lester Mr. Fred C. Lester, Christian Minister, age 75, Sherwood Drive, Apt. 225, Johnson City, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Tazewell County, Virginia, he was the son of the late William O. and Mary Ellen Booth Lester. Mr. Lester was a member of West Side Christian Church, Elizabethton. Mr. Lester graduated from Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, and Emmanuel School of Religion, Johnson City. He had been in the preaching ministry for 51 years. He retired from full time ministry at the King Springs Church of Christ, Johnson City. Mr. Lester had ministries in Bluefield, West Virginia, Princeton, West Virginia and Tennessee. After retirement, he continued fill-in and interim ministries. His last interim ministry was at Gap Creek Christian Church, Elizabethton. Prior to going into the ministry Mr. Lester was in secular employment as a salesman with R.C. Cola Co. and Betsy Ross Bakeries in Bluefield, Virginia and Bluefield, West Virginia. He was the author of a religious book titled The Supper and the Shepherds. He served as song leader for the Carter County Men's Fellowship for two years. Mr. Lester was presented an award by the Fellowship on August 29, 1999 titled "God's Honored Servant." Mr. Lester served as a volunteer at Appalachian Christian Village where he lived. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and one step-sister. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Bales Lester of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Fred Thomas and Ann Lester of Elizabethton; Larry Allen and Judy Lester of Gray, and Timothy L. and Karen Lester of Hagerstown, Md.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma and David Smith of Yucaipa, California, and Ellen and Herman Monk of Bristow, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Bales of Bluefield, Va. and Mrs. Norene Bales of Bluefield, West Virginia. LESTER -- The funeral service for Mr. Fred C. Lester, Sherwood Drive, Apt. 225, Johnson City, who went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 30, 2003, will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in the Tetrick Funeral Services Sunrise Chapel with Mr. Timothy L. Lester, Mr. David Workman and Mr. Greg Key, Ministersofficiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Chuck Odom, soloist. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003 prior to the service in the chapel. The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Bill Carter, Winfred Sluder, Bruce Lewis, Luther McKeehan, Anthony Lyons, Wayne Jones, Mark Norman and Dan Dykes. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Eubanks, Walter Wilson, Luther Payne, Harry Sisk, G. W. Lewis, Luther Fair, Ray Nichols, Larry Utt, William Scott, Chad Hopson, Travis Lamberson, Men in the Christian Men's Fellowship, Carter County Ministers, Washington County Ministers, Administrators of Appalachian Christian Village, and residents of Appalachian Christian Village. Those who plan to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003 to go in procession to the cemetery.
