Maye BLOUNTVILLE -- Jesse Ray "J.R." Maye, 79, of Buffalo Road died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at home. He was born in the Harr community of Washington County, Va., a son of the late John Harrison Maye and Birdie Lee Phillips Maye, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 9th Armored Artillery Division of the 3rd Army in France. He was a longstanding member of Brookside Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, and was retired from the Bristol Virginia Utilities Board. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar Maye, Paul Maye and Ernest "Bill" Maye. Survivors include his former wife, Ruth Lewis Wilson Maye of Bristol; three daughters, Jo E. Johnson of Bristol, Deborah C. Taylor and her husband, Troy, of Bristol Tennessee and Susan J. Maye and her husband, Benjamin Hoss, of Johnson City; one son, Ronald K. Maye and his wife, Tammy, of Bristol; one sister, Jennie Lee Bailey of Bristol; seven grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 5 o'clock Sunday in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Potter officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The committal service and burial will be at 2 o'clock Monday in the National Cemetery at Mountian Home, Tenn. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the church, other special friends and neighbors and special family members, William Maye and Bob Forrester.
