WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - R.B. Peterson, 14 May 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- R.B. Peterson, 79, Tulip Street, Johnson City, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Ronceverte, W.Va. Mr. Peterson was a native of Carter County and had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a son of the late Zack and Debbie Whitson Peterson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leola Daugherty Peterson, and two brothers, S.J. and Ralph Peterson. Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in Japan and Korea and seeing action in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Army Reserve for several years and later joined the Tennessee Defense Force, where he retired with the rank of Brigadier General. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, VFW, Moose and Elks clubs. Mr. Peterson was a businessman at heart and founded Royal Printing, Inc. He loved the outdoors, traveling with friends and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Peterson formerly worked at Mountain Home with the Veterans Administration, served as principal of Austin Springs School for one year, and worked for the TVA and GMAC. He was an elder and treasurer of Mountain View Church of Christ. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Audrey Peterson, Johnson City; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Kelly Hodge, Johnson City; one grandson, Patrick Hodge, Johnson City; one granddaughter, Alexis Hodge, Johnson City; one brother, Emmett Peterson, Knoxville; and two sisters, Myrtle Wine, Indian Springs, Tenn., and Edna Bowman, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Celebration of Life for R.B. Peterson will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, from the Morris-Baker South Chapel with Mr. Richard Lewis, minister, officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Barnett, Joe Lynn Bowman, Russell Brackens, Bob East, Ikie Higgins and Joel Piercy. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Following the funeral service, family and friends will proceed to Monte Vista Memorial Park for committal services Condolences may be sent to the family via www.morrisbaker.com.
