Roe Thelma Mitchell Roe, who would have been 99 years old in May, of 62 Sterling Court, North Johnson City, went to be with her heavenly Father, as the angels happily looked on, Monday morning, January 29, 2007, at North Side Hospital. She passed away quietly following a brief illness. Mrs. Roe was born in Washington County, but lived most of her life in Elizabethton. As a young girl she was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation and the Meade Corporation in Kingsport. She was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church in Elizabethton and was a very devoted Christian. She was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and also sang in the church choir for many years. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a homemaker. Mrs. Roe was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Claudia Pritchard Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Lee Roe, five sisters, Ethel Rector, Beulah Ferguson, Mattie Ruth Sammons, Edith Ford and Violet Fink, and two brothers, James T. "Jim" Mitchell and Reginald Mitchell. Survivors include her daughters, Doris R. Heath of Johnson City and Carol R. Fargason, of the home; a sister, Helen Shelton of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special family and friends, Jewell Fox, Ali Royston, Dorsey "Pete" Ferguson, Bell Lyons, her lifelong friend, Pearl Fulkerson, and Wylene Vandeventer and Mikki Vandeventer who were always so excited to sit with her. A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Roe will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Brent Seals officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, and at other times at the residence, 62 Sterling Court, North Johnson City. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. William Swafford officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be John L. Bowers Jr., Ralph Saylor, Clyde Pitt Jr., Dorsey "Pete" Ferguson, Kenny Ferguson, Bill Holden, Blaine Mitchell, Jimmy Joe Mitchell, Marvin Fink, Dr. Stephen Dale, Dr. Phil Walters, Dr. Christopher Hemphill and Dr. Herbert Ladley. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
