Rutherford Delmar C. Rutherford, 82, 112 Fairlawn Drive, Johnson City, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Rutherford was a native of Washington County, Va., and the son of the late Alfred Charles and Ethel MaryBelle Julian Rutherford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, W.C. Rutherford and Billy Rutherford. Mr. Rutherford was a retired plumber and steamfitter and a member of Local #102 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union of Knoxville. He was also a member of Myrtle Masonic Lodge #89 of Belleville, Mich. He was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Kathleen Hickman Rutherford, of the home; a son, Joseph Lee Rutherford, of the home; and a brother, John C. Rutherford, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Masonic Memorial Service for Mr. Rutherford will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28, by the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service hour. The graveside service and inurnment will be at 3 p.m. Monday, May 29, at Happy Valley Memorial park with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. Everyone planning to attend the graveside service should meet at the cemetery at 2:55 p.m. Monday. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 209 South Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
