Tester "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21 Carroll H. Tester, age 80, of the Embreeville community, loving husband, devoted father, and humble servant of God, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Thursday, September 7, 2006 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 11, 1926, in Washington County, and was a graduate of Washington College Academy in 1944. He was a long-time member of the Embreeville Church of Christ, where he served as deacon and board secretary for nearly 20 years. In addition to being a farmer, he was a retired employee of Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. where he worked for over 35 years. He was a member of the Centennial Lodge #491, the Jericho Shrine, the Knoxville Scottish Rite, and a long-time member and officer of the Lamar Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Tester; by his mother, Eliza Walker Tester; by a son, Richard Stephen Tester; six brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Betty Treadway Tester; two sons Michael Tester and wife Star of Jonesborough and Patrick Tester and wife Angela, Telford; three grandchildren, Robert Tester, Kaylee Tester and Connor Tester; two nephews, Buddy Tester and Frank Tester; three nieces, Lora Rice, Shirley Hayes and Gloria MacRonald. The family received friends Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, from 5-8 p.m. at the Embreeville Church of Christ, 4358 Highway 81 South, Erwin. The funeral service was held at the church at approximately 8 p.m. (upon the conclusion of the visitation) with Philip Rogers, Dewey Mullikin, and Charles Fitzsimmons officiating. The graveside service will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the New Victory Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harlan Arnold, Rick Broyles, J.J. Casey, Gary Cash, Jeff Deaton, Terry Deaton, Jim Tittle and Vaughn Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be all past and present board members of the Embreeville Church of Christ, and members of the Lamar Ruritan Club. Thanks to the many family members and friends who have been so caring and giving during this difficult time.
